David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Devaro Taylor, 35, from New Haven, was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams handed down the sentence in Hartford. Following his imprisonment, Taylor will undergo three years of supervised release for distributing crack cocaine.
The case against Taylor stemmed from an investigation by the FBI’s New Haven Safe Streets/Gang Task Force and the New Haven Police Department into narcotics trafficking in the area. Between September and December 2020, investigators conducted controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Taylor. A court-authorized wiretap revealed that he sold both powder and crack cocaine to various customers in New Haven.
Taylor was arrested on January 26, 2021. During a search of his residence on that date, authorities found approximately 124 grams of cocaine, around 226 grams of crack cocaine, and $6,702 in cash.
On December 7, 2021, Taylor pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base (“crack”).
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathaniel J. Gentile prosecuted this case through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Program. More information about OCDETF can be found at https://www.justice.gov/OCDETF.
