WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Thursday released the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to raise the debt ceiling:

“Whether or not we pay our bills should never have been up for negotiation, but I appreciate that President Biden kept Speaker McCarthy’s most extreme demands out of the final agreement. Republicans are addicted to creating chaos to pass their unpopular policies – even at the expense of American families. I’m glad we prevented an unnecessary economic catastrophe, but House Republicans need to stop these dangerous games which undermine the American public’s confidence in our ability to govern.”
