UConn junior Josh Mooney was named the BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on Apr. 21 following a standout performance at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Mooney broke both school and conference records in the decathlon, scoring 8,033 points. His result currently leads not only the BIG EAST but also the Northeast and East Region, while ranking second nationally this season.
The recognition highlights Mooney’s significant achievement for UConn’s track and field program as he continues to excel in collegiate competition.
On the women’s side, sophomore Maresa Hense was honored as Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after breaking UConn’s school record in the heptathlon with a score of 5,816 points at Mt. SAC Relays. Hense now leads her event in both conference and region standings and holds seventh place nationally this season.
Both athletes’ performances underscore UConn’s strong presence in collegiate track and field competitions this year.
