The UConn softball team defeated the Georgetown Hoyas, 15-1, in a five-inning run-rule victory on May 3 at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. With this win, the Huskies secured a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship alongside Providence, finishing conference play with an 18-6 record and an overall record of 28-25.
This achievement highlights UConn’s continued success under head coach Laura Valentino. The team has now won the BIG EAST Regular Season title in three out of the last five seasons (2022, 2023, and 2026).
Graduate Jessica Walter started her fifteenth game for UConn in this regular season finale. Walter pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and recording one strikeout. Offensively, Cat Petteys led with her fourteenth double of the season to bring home Kaitlyn Kibling in the first inning. Haley Coupal followed with a single to double UConn’s lead.
UConn extended its advantage to seven runs in the second inning through hits from Heidi Barber and Petteys, while Coupal capped off that frame with another RBI single. The third inning saw eight more runs added by UConn; key moments included Barber’s RBI single and Emma Willers’ bases-clearing triple—the first triple of her career.
Pitchers Alexandra Bacher, Amber Bretton, and Stella Kiemele all contributed relief appearances to close out the game for UConn. Georgetown managed their only run in the fourth inning but could not overcome UConn’s early offensive surge.
The Huskies’ lineup showed consistency as all nine batters reached base safely during Sunday’s contest. Several players achieved notable streaks: Petteys recorded her sixth three-hit game this year; Kibling reached base safely for a twenty-first consecutive game; Coupal logged her second three-hit performance this season; Barber collected her third multi-hit effort; Willers earned her seventh multi-hit outing; Ring posted her eighth multi-RBI game.
Looking ahead, UConn enters postseason play as the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and will face No. 3 seed Creighton Bluejays on Thursday, May 7 at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
