The Hartford softball team lost both of its non-conference games against Trinity College on Apr. 28, falling on the road in a doubleheader.
The results affect the Hawks as they approach the end of their regular season, highlighting challenges in both pitching and offense during these matchups.
In the first game, Hartford left the bases loaded in each of the first two innings but could not score. Trinity responded with four runs in the second inning and added more in later frames, ending game one with an 8-0 win after a walk-off double. Junior Gracie Hopkins pitched three innings for Hartford, allowing four runs on five hits with one strikeout. Sophomore Ella Zobel finished out the remaining outs, giving up another four runs. Senior Gia Miccio extended her hitting streak and broke Hartford’s single-season stolen base record by reaching her nineteenth steal.
Game two saw Hartford take an early lead when Miccio singled, stole second base, and scored on a double by sophomore Alyssa Edwards. The Hawks built their advantage through sacrifice flies from Miccio and sophomore Lucy Lembo but could not hold off Trinity’s late rally. Junior Alex Hassett pitched six innings for Hartford with two earned runs allowed before senior Carly Mayhood took over and was charged with the loss after giving up two more runs in relief.
Freshman Gillian Ulrich led at bat going 2-for-3 while Miccio contributed offensively as well as defensively throughout both games.
Looking ahead, Hartford will finish its regular season at home against Westfield State on Thursday at 3:00 PM.
