The Hartford softball team ended its season on May 8 after a 13-3 defeat against top-seeded Endicott College in the Conference of New England semifinals. The Hawks finished their year with a record of 21 wins and 20 losses, including three conference victories as the number five seed.
This game marked the conclusion of Hartford’s campaign, which saw them advance to the semifinal round before being eliminated by Endicott. The Gulls took an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and continuing to build on their advantage throughout the game.
Junior Adelie Beebe contributed for Hartford with a sacrifice fly that brought freshman Alina Weaver home for a run. Senior Anita Farkash drove in two more runs with a double in the third inning, but it was not enough to overcome Endicott’s offense. “The Hawks would not go down without a fight getting a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on a two RBI double by senior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.) to trim the deficit to 10-3,” according to Hartford Athletics.
On pitching duties, senior Carly Mayhood started for Hartford and allowed four runs over one inning while recording one strikeout. Sophomore Ella Zobel pitched next and gave up two runs in her single inning. Junior Alex Hassett allowed four unearned runs during her time on the mound, while junior Gracie Hopkins finished out the final two innings with three runs allowed—one earned.
Sophomore Eryn Coyle led at bat for Hartford going two-for-two. Beebe added an RBI and drew a walk, while Farkash delivered an extra-base hit along with her pair of RBIs. Endicott totaled fifteen hits overall and will move forward to face Roger Williams University in pursuit of the championship title.
This result brings an end to Hartford’s softball season.
