The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has announced changes to the Hartford Line train schedule due to planned track construction by Amtrak. The adjustments will take place from the evening of Friday, August 22, 2025, through early morning Monday, August 25, 2025. Most trains during this period will be replaced with bus service.
According to CTDOT, “Busing is necessary to support Amtrak’s Wood Interlocking project. The project consists of replacing track components which will lead to a reduction in maintenance and increased reliability. Amtrak will also be upgrading the railroad crossing at Macktown Road in Windsor. The crossing will be closed from August 22 through September 10 with detours planned for traffic. This will keep the railroad in a state of good repair.”
During this outage—the second of four scheduled weekend outages on the Hartford Line this year—bus substitutions are as follows: On August 22, Amtrak trains 148 and 136 will be bused between New Haven and Springfield, Massachusetts; on August 23 and 24, all Amtrak trains between New Haven and Springfield and all CTrail trains between Hartford and Springfield will use buses; on August 25, Amtrak trains 141 and 125 will operate by bus between Springfield and New Haven.
Train fares remain effective for substitute buses. Passengers must purchase either a CTrail or Amtrak ticket before boarding.
“Buses will stop at all scheduled stations. Bus times at intermediate stations may vary due to traffic and other conditions. Customers will be directed to the bus pick up and drop off location by signage on the platform,” CTDOT stated.
Customers are encouraged to check updated schedules at hartfordline.com or amtrak.com for current information about service changes. They can also sign up for alerts via mobile phone or email at hartfordline.com/service-alerts to receive timely updates about travel preferences.
The Macktown Road railroad crossing in Windsor is set for closure from August 22 through September 10 while upgrades are completed; detours have been arranged for vehicle traffic during that time.
