A Groton man has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison and 20 years of supervised release for a child exploitation offense, according to David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Ryan Cameron, 23, received his sentence from U.S. District Judge Vernon D. Oliver in Hartford. Court documents indicate that Cameron was previously convicted in state court in 2023 for illegally disseminating intimate images of a 15-year-old girl. While on probation in April 2024, a home visit by his probation officer revealed he possessed a cell phone against the terms of his probation.

A forensic analysis of the device uncovered videos depicting child sexual abuse and messages where Cameron solicited and distributed child pornography. The investigation also found recordings showing Cameron sending sexually explicit images and videos of himself to underage girls via Snapchat.

Cameron had been detained since May 20, 2024, following an arrest on unrelated state charges. He pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography in federal court on January 3, 2025.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations with support from the New Haven Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Lembo.

“This prosecution is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, which is aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation,” said officials. “For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.justice.gov/psc.”
