In Hartford, Connecticut, Governor Ned Lamont marked the one-year anniversary of the documentary “Rising Tide to Table,” which celebrates Connecticut’s oyster farming and food culture. The governor used this occasion to promote the Connecticut Oyster Trail and a new experience offered by Stonington Farms Shellfish.
Governor Lamont stated, “Connecticut’s oyster trail is more than a seafood crawl, it’s a living story about our working waterfront, family-run farms, and a thriving food culture.” He emphasized the importance of coastal communities in driving economic growth and described Connecticut as “the Napa Valley of Oysters.”
Stonington Farms Shellfish, operated by Beth and Kris Simonds who appeared in the documentary, offers an immersive oyster farming experience. Guests can stay at a waterfront Airbnb studio, participate in oyster farming activities with the Simonds, enjoy oysters at a tiki bar-style farmstand, and dine at local restaurants such as The Shipwright’s Daughter and Oyster Club.
The documentary “Rising Tide to Table” was produced by the Connecticut Office of Statewide Marketing and Tourism. It received recognition for Achievement in Directing (Documentary) at the 2024 Bridgeport Film Festival and was also an official selection of the Mystic Film Festival. The film follows an oyster’s journey from sea to plate, featuring award-winning chefs like Emily Mingrone.
Following the documentary’s success, three new short films have been released by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture and the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. These films highlight industry voices such as Will Ceddia of Six Point Oysters and Steve Plant of Noank Oysters.
Connecticut Agriculture Commissioner Bryan Hurlburt commented on the industry’s impact: “This industry isn’t just feeding people, it’s feeding jobs, tourism, and sustainability.” Anthony Anthony, Connecticut’s chief marketing officer added that “Rising Tide to Table captured something bigger than just oysters,” highlighting its representation of creativity and craftsmanship.
