Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Office of Higher Education Commissioner Timothy D. Larson announced on May 6 that Serve Connecticut, also known as the Connecticut Commission on Community Service, will offer a series of virtual recruitment information sessions throughout May. The sessions are intended to inform residents about serving as an AmeriCorps member and how they can contribute to their communities.

The initiative aims to help address challenges in local communities by encouraging more people to join AmeriCorps programs. Participants will learn about available opportunities, program requirements, and benefits through these online sessions.

The virtual meetings are hosted via Zoom and include an overview of AmeriCorps service in Connecticut, details on current programs, and guidance on how individuals can get involved. Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes with an additional 15-minute question-and-answer period. “AmeriCorps members play a vital role in addressing challenges facing our communities and provide a powerful pathway for individuals to serve their communities while gaining valuable work experience and skills,” Governor Lamont said. “I encourage residents across Connecticut to take advantage of these sessions and consider how they can contribute to building a stronger, more resilient state.”

Sessions are scheduled at various times during May, with both morning and afternoon options available for flexibility. They will continue into the summer months as part of ongoing recruitment efforts taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays each month.

“Through AmeriCorps, we are strengthening communities while building the next generation of leaders,” Timothy D. Larson said. “These information sessions are an important step in connecting residents with meaningful service opportunities that support education, public health, and economic mobility.” Sydney Guerrera added: “Whether you’re exploring a career in public service, looking to give back, or seeking a meaningful way to engage with your community, AmeriCorps offers opportunities for people from all backgrounds to serve and grow.” Guerrera said the sessions make it easy for anyone interested in community service or national service programs to explore ways they can get involved.

Adrienne Eckman noted: “AmeriCorps programs offer flexibility with full-time and part-time terms, living stipends, and education awards upon successful completion of service.” She added that members receive professional development within their field of service.

Interested individuals may register for upcoming virtual information sessions through Serve Connecticut’s website or contact staff directly if unable to attend.
