Five student-athletes from the University of Connecticut’s softball team were named to the BIG EAST All-Conference teams, according to a May 6 announcement by the league. Cat Petteys and Jessica Walter earned first team honors, while Caprice Bohmer, Kaitlyn Kibling, and Savannah Ring were selected for the second team.
The recognition marks the fifth consecutive year that UConn has had at least four players receive All-Conference selections under head coach Laura Valentino. This continued success highlights the team’s strong performance within the conference.
Sophomore infielder Cat Petteys was awarded All-BIG EAST First Team honors for a second straight year. She started all 53 games at shortstop and led her team in several offensive categories including hits (65), doubles (15), home runs (17), runs batted in (54), and runs scored (56). Her .385 batting average ranked fifth in the conference, and she was one of six players with a slugging percentage over .700 this season.
Graduate pitcher Jessica Walter received her first career All-BIG EAST honor after transferring from Providence for her final collegiate season. She posted career highs in appearances, starts, innings pitched, and saves while leading UConn’s pitching staff with a 3.45 earned run average—ranking fourth among conference pitchers.
Freshman pitcher Caprice Bohmer also received her first conference honor following an impressive rookie campaign where she led UConn pitchers in wins (12) and strikeouts (120). Senior outfielder Kaitlyn Kibling set career highs across multiple offensive statistics during her final season as team captain. Senior infielder Savannah Ring started every game at second base this season and posted personal bests in batting average (.344) and other key metrics.
Other major BIG EAST awards included Player of the Year going to Cat Petteys of UConn, Pitcher of the Year to Alyssa Twomey from Providence, Defensive Player of the Year to Ashten Pierson from Creighton, Freshman of the Year to Keegan Mayhue from Creighton, and Coaching Staff of the Year awarded to Providence.
