Fairfield University Women’s Lacrosse secured a spot in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship game after defeating Quinnipiac 13-9 in a semifinal match on May 1 at Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium.
The result marks the ninth consecutive season that Fairfield will compete for the conference title. Head Coach Laura Field, named the 2026 MAAC Coach of the Year, said, “We won that game with timely plays at the most important parts of the game. We didn’t play a completely clean game, but we stepped up when we needed it most. Whitney [Robinson] was outstanding with some game-changing saves. We put some different looks out there on the draw, and Anna Marquadt and that whole unit came through. And I thought Tessa Caputo, having five points while being face-guarded for most of the day, was tremendous for us.”
With this victory, top-seeded Fairfield improved its record to 14-3 and will play in its seventeenth program appearance in a MAAC Championship final on Sunday, May 3 at Rafferty Stadium against either Niagara or Siena. The team is aiming for its tenth conference championship and an NCAA postseason berth.
In Friday’s match-up, Tessa Caputo led Fairfield’s offense with five points and reached a career milestone of 100 total points. She also set a program record with her forty-sixth assist this season and tied for eighth place in single-season history with seventy-three points so far.
Kelly Haggerty and Kyleigh Tufano each scored three goals among seven different goal scorers for Fairfield. Haley Burns added two goals; Katie Bergen, Kit Zanelli, and Mary Henry each scored once as well. Goalkeeper Whitney Robinson matched her season high by making twelve saves.
Quinnipiac finished its season at ten wins and eight losses after reaching the semifinals. Cate Bendowski led their effort with four goals and three assists.
Fairfield Women’s Lacrosse will compete for another conference title on Sunday morning against either Siena or Niagara.
