The Fairfield University softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Saint Peter’s University on May 1, defeating the Peacocks by scores of 8-0 and 9-0.
The results highlight strong performances in both pitching and offense for Fairfield. The victories were led by pitchers Alyssa Weinberg and Peyton Shields, who each threw five-inning complete games. Weinberg allowed three hits, struck out seven batters, walked one, and earned her fifteenth win of the season. Shields gave up only one hit—a leadoff double in the fifth inning—struck out three batters, walked one, and secured her ninth victory.
Fairfield combined for seventeen runs on twenty-one hits over the two games. In the first game, back-to-back doubles from Cara Kochakian and Sarah Bielski started the scoring in the second inning. Ava Armuth added a solo home run in the third inning. Additional runs came from aggressive base running by Darby Weller and RBI singles from Danica Silvestri and others. The Stags completed their scoring with more contributions from Silvestri, Kochakian’s sacrifice fly, and Bielski’s RBI double.
In game two, Fairfield scored all nine runs within the first three innings. Anna Paravati singled with two outs to set up Sammy Dougherty’s RBI single for an early lead. A misplayed grounder brought home another run before Armuth hit a three-run double to left center field in the second inning. Four more runs came across in the third after several hits and another error by Saint Peter’s.
The teams will conclude their series with a single game on Saturday afternoon. After finishing regular season play against Saint Peter’s, Fairfield will compete next week in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship.
