The Fairfield University softball team won against Rider University with an 8-0 victory in five innings, according to an April 26 announcement. The game took place as the Stags honored their seniors before the series finale.
The event was notable for both the senior celebration and a strong performance by the Class of 2026, who contributed significantly to the win. Pitcher Alyssa Weinberg limited Rider to just one hit in four innings, striking out six and walking two batters. Her effort kept one of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s top offensive teams from scoring.
Fairfield scored three runs in the first inning after Sarah Bielski and Anna Paravati drew walks. Sammie Dougherty drove in a run with a hit to left field, followed by Ava Armuth’s two-run double that made it 3-0. In later innings, Armuth added another double and Quinn McGonigle singled through the left side for a fourth run.
In the fourth inning, Bielski and Paravati reached base again with singles. Darby Weller came in as a pinch runner for Paravati, stole second base, and advanced home on an error that allowed Bielski to score. Dougherty added another RBI with a sacrifice fly.
The game ended early after Fairfield scored two more runs in the fifth inning due to another Rider error and Bielski’s base hit that brought home the eighth run. The Stags are scheduled to play four more games during their final week of regular season play: hosting Stony Brook University on Tuesday at 3 p.m., then finishing their conference schedule at Saint Peter’s University.
