A Fairfield resident has won $100,000 in the latest Powerball drawing after matching four white balls and the Powerball number on August 11. The win, which would have been $50,000, was doubled because the winner had selected the Power Play option, resulting in a 2X multiplier.

The winning ticket was purchased at North Main Convenience store in Norwalk. The winner explained his reaction: “I thought the clerk was playing a joke on me when he checked the ticket.” He also noted that he usually opts for the quick pick option rather than choosing his own numbers.

This is not the first recent $100,000 Powerball win in Connecticut; another player from Waterbury also won using the quick pick feature. The current estimated jackpot stands at $565 million for Saturday night’s drawing, marking only the second time this year that it has surpassed half a billion dollars.

Powerball overall odds are 1 in 24.9, with jackpot odds at 1 in 292,201,338. Purchasers must be at least 18 years old to play. Support is available for those experiencing gambling problems through resources such as https://www.ctlottery.org/ResponsiblePlay or by calling (888) 789-7777.

The Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC), a quasi-public state agency, reported that players won over $1 billion in prizes during fiscal year 2024. In addition to prize payouts, CLC contributed about $387 million to Connecticut’s General Fund last year. These funds support essential public services including education, health care, safety initiatives, and libraries across the state.

Since its inception in 1972, CLC has returned more than $11 billion to state programs and awarded over $23 billion to winners.

Players must be at least 18 years old to purchase lottery tickets and at least 21 to place sports wagers. More information on responsible play can be found at https://www.ctlottery.org/ResponsiblePlay.
