ANGEL DELAROSA, a 40-year-old citizen of the Dominican Republic, has been extradited to the United States to face narcotics and firearms trafficking charges, according to an announcement on Mar. 26.

The case is part of a larger Homeland Security Task Force initiative focused on combating criminal cartels and transnational organizations that contribute to violence and instability in the United States.

Court documents allege that Delarosa led a trafficking organization while living in the Dominican Republic, coordinating the distribution of narcotics and firearms in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey through several redistributors. Investigators reportedly conducted more than 30 controlled purchases from these redistributors, acquiring over one kilogram of fentanyl—some mixed with bromazolam—a relatively new synthetic benzodiazepine—as well as more than 200 grams of methamphetamine and 17 firearms. The indictment also alleges that Delarosa made statements suggesting he could direct violence against individuals in the U.S.

A federal grand jury in New Haven indicted Delarosa on July 8, 2025 for conspiracy to distribute large quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine—a charge carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years—and for engaging in a firearms trafficking conspiracy. In December 2025, six alleged co-conspirators were also indicted by another federal grand jury.

Delarosa was arrested in January 2026 by Dominican authorities at the request of U.S. officials. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert M. Spector in New Haven where he pleaded not guilty and was ordered detained pending trial.

U.S. Attorney Sullivan said: “An indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.” The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan J. Guevremont.
