The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will hold a virtual public information meeting on April 28, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the expansion of the Southeast Area Transit District (SEAT) Facility in Preston.

The meeting will be conducted on Zoom, allowing the public and local community to provide feedback and ask questions about the proposed project. A question and answer session will follow the presentation, which will be recorded. For access instructions and more information, the public can visit portal.ct.gov/DOTPreston0414-0073.

“This project will support SEAT’s transition to a fully electric transit system by expanding the current facility for the operation and maintenance of an all-electric fleet,” said Charles Wiegert, Project Manager at the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The project will include designing and constructing a new indoor charging and storage area for electric buses and paratransit vehicles, equipped with solar panels as a power source.

No right-of-way impacts are expected, and construction is set to begin in the spring of 2027 pending funding and permits. The estimated cost is around $50 million, with an anticipated funding ratio of 80% federal and 20% state funds.

Those with limited internet access can listen to the meeting by dialing (877) 853-5257 and entering Meeting ID 818 2967 9051. Assistance for individuals with hearing and speech disabilities is available via 711 for Telecommunications Relay Services, and project information can be mailed upon request through Charles Wiegert at charles.wiegert@ct.gov or (860) 594-3238.

Language assistance needs should be communicated at least five business days in advance to the CTDOT Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109. Such assistance will be provided free of charge, and efforts will be made to accommodate timely requests. Zoom will also offer non-English language closed captioning. The recorded meeting will be available in CTDOT’s list of virtual public meetings.

Public input is encouraged, with comments and questions accepted until May 12, 2025, directed to Charles Wiegert via email at charles.wiegert@ct.gov or phone at 860-594-3238, referencing Project No. 0414-0073.
