The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has announced a virtual public information meeting regarding the replacement of Bridge No. 07013 on Ben Merrill Road over an unnamed brook in Clinton. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom, and registration is required.

The purpose of the meeting is to allow the public and local community to offer comments or ask questions about the proposed project. A question and answer session will follow the presentation, which will be recorded. Details on accessing the meeting and submitting comments can be found at http://portal.ct.gov/DOTClinton27-130.

Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Marc Byrnes stated, “Originally constructed in 2000, this bridge has exceeded its design life and will be replaced with a new structure in accordance with current design and safety standards.” He encouraged public participation to provide feedback that could be incorporated into the design.

The construction project anticipates right-of-way impacts to accommodate the new structure. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2028, contingent upon funding availability, rights of way acquisition, and permit approvals. The estimated cost for this project is approximately $4 million, funded by 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.

For those with limited internet access, there is an option to listen to the meeting by calling (877) 853-5257 with Meeting ID 824 5360 6534. Individuals with hearing or speech disabilities may use Telecommunications Relay Services by dialing 711. Additionally, those without internet access can request project information via mail by contacting Marc Byrnes at marc.byrnes@ct.gov or (860) 594-3489 within one week.

Language assistance requests should be made at least five business days before the meeting through CTDOT’s Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109. This service is provided free of charge.

Non-English language closed captioning will be available during the Zoom session. The recording will also be accessible after the meeting on CTDOT’s public meeting playlist at portal.ct.gov/ctdotVPIMarchive.

Public comments and questions can be submitted during a two-week period following the meeting until Thursday, July 31, 2025. Submissions can be made via email to DOT-FLBP@ct.gov or phone at (860) 594-2020 or directly to Marc Byrnes at marc.byrnes@ct.gov or (860) 594-3489.
