The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is set to hold a virtual public information meeting on July 2, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will focus on the replacement of Bridge No. 06991, which carries Day Road over Wappoquia Brook in Pomfret. This session aims to provide the public and local community with an opportunity to comment or ask questions about the proposed project.
The meeting will be conducted via Zoom, requiring prior registration. A question and answer session will follow the presentation, which will be recorded for future reference. Instructions for accessing the meeting and submitting comments or questions can be found at portal.ct.gov/DOTPOMFRET0111-0128.
Marc Byrnes, CTDOT Project Manager, stated, “The purpose of the project is to eliminate the bridge’s weight restriction, address the scour critical condition, widen the roadway, and improve the hydraulic performance of the bridge for improved safety.” Byrnes encourages public participation to gather feedback that could influence the design.
The proposed improvements involve several right-of-way impacts such as partial takes, slope easements, temporary construction easements, guiderail end anchorage easements, and a drainage right-of-way easement.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, contingent upon funding availability, rights-of-way acquisition, and permit approvals. The project’s estimated cost is around $4 million and will be funded with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
