The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is set to hold a virtual public meeting concerning the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00448, which carries Route 5 and 15 southbound over Route 314. This meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting is to allow the public and local community to provide input or ask questions about the proposed project. It will be conducted on Zoom, requiring registration for participation. Attendees will be able to ask questions during a Q&A session following the presentation, which will also be recorded. More details on accessing the meeting and submitting comments can be found at portal.ct.gov/DOTWethersfield0159-0195.
“This project will address the structural deficiencies of the bridge and improve the bike, pedestrian, and transit facilities within the project area,” stated Francisco Fadul, the CTDOT Project Manager. The public is encouraged to attend and provide feedback to be considered in the design process.
Minimal right-of-way impacts are expected, though some easements may be necessary for constructing bus facilities and a multi-use trail. Construction is planned to start in the fall of 2026, contingent on funding, rights of way acquisition, and permit approvals. The construction cost is estimated at approximately $6.4 million, with 80% funded federally and 20% by the state.
For those with limited internet access, the meeting can be heard by calling (877) 853-5257 using Meeting ID 880 6696 2536. Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) can be accessed by dialing 711 for individuals with hearing and/or speech disabilities. Additionally, project information can be mailed upon request.
Language assistance is available, requests for which should be placed with the CTDOT Language Assistance Call Line at least five business days prior. Non-English captioning will be provided on Zoom, and a recorded version of the meeting will be available on CTDOT’s public meeting playlist online.
The public comment period will remain open for two weeks following the meeting. Comments and questions can be submitted by May 27, 2025, via email or phone to the provided contacts, referencing Project No. 0159-0195.
