The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is in the process of developing plans to mill and pave 16 bridges along Route 7 in Norwalk. This initiative is part of a broader state-wide bridge preservation program aimed at repairing bridge decks, thereby extending their service life and maintaining the structures in good condition.
The project will involve removing the existing bridge overlay and membrane, conducting necessary repairs to the bridge deck, applying a new membrane and overlay, and replacing the bridge joints.
According to the current schedule, design completion is expected by August 2025. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2026, contingent upon project acceptance, funding availability, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. The project will be financed entirely with state funds.
The specific bridges involved in this project are all located along Route 7 in Norwalk. They include various overpasses such as those over I-95, Connecticut Avenue, Maple Street, Union Park Street, US Route 1 (Belden Avenue), Norwalk River, Route 123, Broad Street, among others.
