CTDOT plans rehabilitation or replacement of Whalley Ave bridge in New Haven

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced on Apr. 13 that it is developing plans to rehabilitate or replace Bridge No. 01031, which carries Route 63 (Whalley Avenue) over the West River in New Haven.

The project aims to bring the bridge to a state of good repair, either through significant rehabilitation or full replacement with a new structure. CTDOT said design work is scheduled for completion by February 2030, and construction could begin in fall 2030 if the project is accepted, funding is available, and all required right-of-way and environmental permits are obtained. The department stated that the project will be funded with eighty percent federal funds and twenty percent state funds.

“It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with CTDOT to assist in the project’s development,” CTDOT said.
