The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 8 that it is preparing plans to rehabilitate Bridge 00603, which carries State Route 848 (Waterbury Road) over the Naugatuck River and Railroad in Thomaston.
The project will include replacing the concrete bridge deck and strengthening the existing substructure. The design phase is expected to be completed by September 2028, with construction anticipated to begin in spring 2029, pending project approval, funding availability, and necessary permits. Funding for the project will come from eighty percent federal sources and twenty percent state funds.
CTDOT said it aims to keep the public informed and involved throughout the process. The department encourages community members to share their concerns or questions about the project by contacting Gregory Funk, Principal Engineer. “It is important that the community share its concerns with CTDOT to assist in the project’s development,” CTDOT said.
