The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 26 that it is developing plans to rehabilitate Bridge 01735, which carries Twenty Four Bumper Road over Route 8 in Harwinton.
The project aims to either rehabilitate the existing bridge or fully replace it, with additional necessary improvements also under consideration. The design phase is scheduled for completion by May 2028, and construction could begin in spring 2029 if the project is approved, funding is secured, and all required permits are obtained. Funding for this project will be provided through an arrangement of eighty percent federal funds and twenty percent state funds.
Public involvement is a key part of CTDOT’s process. The department said a public informational meeting will be held once preliminary design work concludes, followed by a public hearing at the same stage. Questions or comments about the project can be directed to Christopher Patria, Principal Engineer at CTDOT.
According to the official website, CTDOT promotes safety through initiatives such as work zone awareness and supports community infrastructure via grants. The department maintains its headquarters in Newington while managing transportation services statewide across Connecticut. Its efforts focus on providing a safe and efficient intermodal transportation network that improves quality of life and supports economic vitality according to the official website.
Garrett Eucalitto serves as commissioner of CTDOT and oversees policies and initiatives for the agency according to the official website. Community connectivity programs are also supported through grants and engagement with contractors and consultants as reported by the official website.
As planning continues, residents can expect further opportunities for input before construction begins.
