A Connecticut truck driver from Waterbury won $100,000 after buying a Powerball ticket at Wheels Convenience Store on Old Gate Lane in Milford. The win occurred following the August 6, 2025 drawing, when the ticket matched four of five white balls and the red Powerball. The initial prize was $50,000 but increased to $100,000 because the winner had selected the Power Play option with a 2X multiplier.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said the winner.

The truck driver explained that he regularly chooses quick pick tickets instead of selecting his own numbers. He plans to use his winnings to support his family.

Power Play is an add-on feature for Powerball that increases non-jackpot prizes depending on the multiplier drawn during each drawing.

According to the Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC), players must be at least 18 years old to purchase lottery tickets. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are about 1 in 24.9, while jackpot odds are much longer at roughly 1 in 292 million. The CLC is a quasi-public state agency tasked with generating revenue for Connecticut while maintaining high standards of public policy and social responsibility. In fiscal year 2024, lottery players in Connecticut won over $1 billion in prizes, and approximately $387 million was returned to the state’s General Fund. These funds help support services such as education, public health, safety, and libraries across Connecticut (https://ctlottery.org/AboutUs/Our-Mission).

Since its inception in 1972, the Connecticut Lottery has contributed more than $11 billion to state programs and awarded over $23 billion in prizes.

Players must be at least 18 years old to buy lottery tickets and at least 21 years old for sports wagers. For those seeking assistance with gambling problems, resources are available at https://ccpg.org/ or by calling (888) 789-7777.
