Connecticut Department of Agriculture Commissioner Bryan P. Hurlburt joined fellow agriculture leaders from across the United States at the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) Winter Policy Conference held in Washington, D.C., from February 24-26, 2025. The event focused on agricultural and food policy issues under the theme “United We Thrive.”

Commissioner Hurlburt, who serves on NASDA’s board of directors, contributed to discussions on strategies and goals for advancing agriculture. In his capacity as President of the Northeast Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NEASDA), he led a discussion on regional issues affecting the northeast.

During the conference, NASDA members adopted several policy amendments and action items. Notably, they supported designating 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer to recognize women’s contributions to agriculture. They also called for a national response plan for avian influenza.

Attendees had opportunities to engage with key figures such as USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, who announced a $1 billion investment to address avian influenza and reduce egg prices. Congressional leaders provided updates on the Farm Bill, emphasizing bipartisan cooperation.

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture will host NEASDA’s annual meeting in Mystic, CT, from June 8-11, 2025. Commissioner Hurlburt expressed enthusiasm about highlighting Connecticut’s diverse agricultural sector during this event.
