The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is in the process of planning significant upgrades to Interstate 84 in Danbury. The planned improvements include resurfacing the roadway, rehabilitating bridges, and enhancing roadside safety for both directions of travel.

The project aims to extend the service life of existing pavement, upgrade safety equipment along the roadside, and repair stormwater drainage systems as necessary. A notable aspect of this project is the replacement of superstructures on Bridge Nos. 01181 & 01182, which span over the Housatonic Railroad.

According to current plans, design completion is expected by Fall 2028, with construction projected to begin in Spring 2029. This timeline depends on project approval, funding availability, and acquisition of necessary right-of-way and environmental permits. Funding for this initiative will be sourced from ninety percent federal funds and ten percent state funds.

CTDOT emphasizes its commitment to keeping the public informed and involved throughout such projects. Public input is considered vital for successful project development.

For questions or comments regarding this project, individuals are encouraged to contact Sebastian Cannamela, Principal Engineer at CTDOT. He can be reached at (860) 594-2698 or via email at Sebastian.Cannamela@ct.gov. Reference should be made to State Project No. 34-361 when making inquiries.
