The Connecticut legislature is currently reviewing two bills, Senate Bill 8 and House Bill 6904, which propose extending unemployment benefits to workers who are on strike. These measures would allow individuals who voluntarily leave their jobs due to a strike to access benefits from the Unemployment Trust Fund, which is funded by employer-paid taxes.
Critics argue that this change could be detrimental to small businesses. They claim it would be financially irresponsible and set a concerning precedent for the state’s unemployment system. “This is unfair to small businesses, financially irresponsible, and sets a dangerous precedent that distorts the unemployment system,” they assert.
Advocates for small businesses are urging legislators to oppose these bills. They believe maintaining the current structure of the Unemployment Trust Fund is essential for protecting business interests in Connecticut.
