Governor Ned Lamont and Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto have announced a $10 million investment in rural transportation infrastructure in Connecticut. The funding is being distributed to eight rural communities through the Transportation Rural Improvement Program (TRIP), a state grant initiative managed by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. This program aims to assist rural areas that often do not qualify for federal transportation support.
“Connecticut’s rural communities are often shut out of many federal programs because of their size or density, and the state’s TRIP program fixes that problem,” Governor Lamont stated. He emphasized the importance of these grants in maintaining safe and connected communities for future generations.
Commissioner Eucalitto highlighted the significance of this funding: “This program helps rural communities deliver important safety improvement projects that may otherwise have been shelved due to a lack of funding.”
The selected projects include:
– Barkhamsted will receive $1,077,856 for roadway improvements on West River Road.
– Bethlehem is allocated $2,000,000 for paving and safety enhancements on Flanders Road.
– Bolton will use $1,413,238 to replace Lyman Road Bridge.
– Burlington is granted $1,545,500 for improvements on West Chippen Road.
– Columbia will receive $1,479,899 for replacing Thompson Hill Road Bridge over Clark Brook.
– Goshen is allocated $1,500,000 for rehabilitating West Hyerdale Drive Bridge over Marshapaug River.
– Litchfield will use $968,000 for roadway improvements on Campville Road.
– Marlborough receives $341,179 for sidewalk extension on Lake Road.
The TRIP program was launched in 2022 with full state funding. Its first round awarded $9 million in January 2024. Future opportunities under TRIP are expected later this year based on available funds.
