Connecticut’s small businesses are anticipating a boost in sales as the annual Sales Tax Holiday approaches. The event will take place from Sunday, August 18, to Saturday, August 24, providing an opportunity for shoppers to make purchases without the usual 6.35% state sales tax on clothing or footwear items priced under $100.

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Connecticut is actively encouraging residents to support local establishments during this period. “When you shop locally, more of your hard-earned dollars stay within the community,” stated Andy Markowski, NFIB State Director. He emphasized the importance of supporting Main Street businesses, which play a significant role in the local economy by creating jobs and backing community organizations.

The tax exemption applies individually to each qualifying item, allowing consumers to maximize their savings. Markowski added, “By shopping on Main Street, consumers are supporting their local communities, while saving tax dollars, taking advantage of additional promotions, and discovering superb customer service.”

The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services has announced that the 2024 Tax Holiday will officially start at 12:01 AM Eastern Time on Sunday, August 18, and end at midnight on Saturday, August 24.

Shoppers can look forward to potential additional promotions during this tax-free period, further incentivizing them to explore local options.

For more details about the tax holiday and qualifying purchases, residents are encouraged to seek further information.
