The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has scheduled two public information meetings to discuss the proposed Flex Lane project on I-84 in Danbury. The first meeting will be held in person on March 5, 2026, at St. Joseph Church Hall in Danbury, beginning with an open house at 5:30 p.m. and a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m. The second meeting is set for March 10, 2026, and will take place virtually via Zoom at noon.

These meetings aim to inform residents and gather feedback about the Flex Lane proposal. Attendees can view project materials and ask questions during the open house session of the in-person event. For more details or to register for the virtual meeting, individuals are directed to www.i84Danbury.com/FlexLane.

If inclement weather occurs, the in-person meeting will be rescheduled for March 11, 2026.

“The proposed Flex Lane is a targeted practical approach to addressing congestion, while improving safety and mobility on I-84 in Danbury by making better use of the existing roadway,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Kevin Burnham. “We look forward to sharing how this proven strategy works and hearing feedback from the community.”

The Flex Lane project stems from findings of the I-84 Danbury Planning and Environment Linkages Study. The section between Interchanges 3 and 7 faces heavy congestion that affects both local and regional travel. Improvements are also planned for southbound Route 7 near westbound I-84 at Exit 7 to enhance traffic flow.

No right-of-way impacts are expected as part of this project.

Construction is expected to begin in summer 2028 if funding is available and permits are approved. The estimated cost is about $250 million, with federal funds covering approximately ninety percent and state funds covering ten percent.

CTDOT staff who speak Spanish or Portuguese will attend the in-person meeting; additional language assistance can be requested by contacting CTDOT’s Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109 at least five business days before the event. Non-English closed captioning will be available during the Zoom session, with recordings posted afterward on CTDOT’s public meeting playlist.

For those without internet access, participation options include listening by phone or requesting mailed project information from Kevin Burnham at Kevin.Burnham@ct.gov or (860) 594-3485 within one week.

Comments may be submitted through April 6, 2026 via email (I84DanburyFlexLane@ct.gov), phone ((860) 594-3485), online form (i84Danbury.com/FlexLane-comment/), or mail addressed to Kevin Burnham at CTDOT headquarters in Newington.
