The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has scheduled an in-person public informational meeting regarding the replacement of Bridge No. 00232, which carries Route 153 over I-95 in Westbrook. The meeting will take place at Westbrook Town Hall, located at 866 Boston Post Road, on Thursday, December 11, 2025. An open forum for individual discussions with CTDOT project staff will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a formal design presentation at 7:00 p.m. The facility is accessible under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The purpose of the meeting is to inform residents and community members about the proposed bridge replacement project and to provide an opportunity for public input. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Instructions for submitting comments or questions are available at http://portal.ct.gov/DOTWestbrook0154-0128.

Connecticut Department of Transportation Spokesperson Josh Morgan stated, “This project will increase safety for all roadway users by replacing the current bridge with a new structure, including sidewalks with ADA accessible ramps and wider roadway shoulders along both sides of Route 153. The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to share feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”

The project may require slope easements and a defined traffic easement for traffic signal equipment as part of its right-of-way impacts.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2028, pending funding availability, acquisition of rights of way, and permit approvals. The estimated cost for construction is approximately $34 million, with funding anticipated to come from an 80% federal and 20% state split.

Individuals who need hearing or speech assistance can dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Services. Project information can also be mailed upon request by contacting Salvatore Aresco at Salvatore.Aresco@ct.gov or (860) 594-3239 within one week.

Language assistance services are available through the CTDOT Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109 if requested at least five business days before the meeting. These services are provided free of charge.

Comments and questions from the public will be accepted during a two-week comment period following the meeting. Submissions should be made by Friday, December 26, 2025, via email to DOTProject154-128@ct.gov or directly to Salvatore Aresco using the contact details above.
