The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will hold an open house to discuss pedestrian improvements at several highway ramp locations in East Hartford. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the East Hartford Town Hall, located at 740 Main St. The venue is accessible for individuals with disabilities.
The meeting aims to give residents and community members a chance to review project materials and ask questions directly to the project team. Information on how to provide feedback or ask questions can be found at portal.ct.gov/DOTEastHartford0042-0332. This initiative is part of the Greater Hartford Mobility Program.
“This Greater Hartford Mobility Program early action project provides critical pedestrian infrastructure, increasing safety for vulnerable users at strategic locations,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Engineer Katherine Yale. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”
Planned improvements may require minor property acquisitions, temporary construction easements, a traffic easement for signal equipment, and rights to grade and construct driveways.
Construction is expected to start in spring 2028 if funding and property rights are secured. The estimated cost is about $3 million, with funding anticipated from 80% federal sources and 20% state sources.
CTDOT has promoted safety through various initiatives such as work zone awareness and supports community infrastructure via grants, according to its official website (https://portal.ct.gov/dot?language=en_US). The department maintains its headquarters in Newington and manages transportation services statewide. Its mission includes providing a safe and efficient intermodal network that improves quality of life and supports economic vitality across Connecticut.
Individuals with hearing or speech disabilities can use Telecommunications Relay Services by dialing 711. Those without internet access may request mailed project information by contacting Katherine.Yale@ct.gov or calling (860) 594-2841 within one week.
