The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has announced a virtual public information meeting regarding the installation of centerline rumble strips on Route 123 (Smith Ridge Road) and Route 124 (Oenoke Ridge Road) in New Canaan. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

This meeting aims to provide the public and local community with an opportunity to comment or ask questions about the proposed project. It will be held on Zoom, requiring prior registration. A question and answer session will follow the presentation, which will be recorded. Details on accessing the meeting and submitting comments can be found at portal.ct.gov/DOT2025CLRS-NewCanaan.

“Centerline rumble strips are a low-cost, proven FHWA safety countermeasure that alert drivers when they drift out of a lane, reducing head-on collisions and roadway departure crashes,” stated Balazs Szoke, Project Manager at CTDOT. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”

No right-of-way impacts are expected from this project. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026 with an estimated cost of approximately $13,000. The project will be funded entirely by state funds without any cost to New Canaan.

For those with limited internet access, listening options include calling (877) 853-5257 with Meeting ID 825 6773 3363. Telecommunications Relay Services are available by dialing 711 for individuals with hearing or speech disabilities. Project information can also be mailed upon request by contacting Balazs Szoke at TrafficSafety.DOT@ct.gov or (860) 594-2745.

Language assistance requests should be made five business days before the meeting through the CTDOT Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109. Non-English language closed captioning will be available on Zoom during the meeting.

Comments and questions can be submitted during a two-week period following the meeting until Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Submissions should reference Project No. 0173-0544 and can be sent via email to DOT2025CLRS-NewCanaan@ct.gov or by phone at (860) 594-2020.
