The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is in the process of developing plans to replace a temporary bridge on Route 34 over Eight Mile Brook in Oxford. This temporary structure was initially constructed following flooding events in August 2024.

The new permanent bridge will be built at approximately the same location as the existing temporary one. According to the current schedule, design completion is expected by November 2026, with construction anticipated to begin in spring 2027. This timeline is contingent upon project acceptance, funding availability, and obtaining necessary right-of-way and environmental permits. The project will be funded with an 80 percent contribution from federal funds and a 20 percent contribution from state funds.

CTDOT emphasizes its policy of keeping the public informed and involved during such projects. Community input is considered important for the project’s development. For questions or comments regarding this project, individuals are encouraged to contact Andrew Cardinali, Principal Engineer, at (860) 594-3315 or via email at Andrew.Cardinali@ct.gov, referencing Bridge Number 00944.
