The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will hold a virtual public information meeting on May 21, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the replacement of two bridges in Preston. The bridges in question are Bridge No. 05520 on Parks Road over Broad Brook and Bridge No. 06085 on Cooktown Road over an unnamed brook.
The meeting aims to provide the public and local community with an opportunity to offer comments or ask questions about the proposed project. It will be conducted via Zoom, and registration is necessary. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation, which will be recorded. Details on accessing the meeting and providing feedback can be found at https://portal.ct.gov/DOTPreston0113.
“These projects will improve safety on Parks Road and Cooktown Road and extend the service life while allowing the original superstructure and culvert to remain in place,” stated Marc Byrnes, CTDOT Project Manager. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”
The projects involve permanent slope easements, right-to-grade driveways for roadway profile adjustments, and temporary construction easements for contractors.
Construction is expected to start in spring 2027, contingent upon funding availability, rights-of-way acquisition, and permit approvals.
The estimated construction cost for replacing Bridge No. 05520 is approximately $2.8 million, while Bridge No. 06085 is estimated at $2.6 million. The projects are planned with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
