The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has announced a tree removal project on I-84 eastbound and westbound. The work will extend from Exit 34 in Plainville to Exit 46 in Hartford. The operation is set to start on Monday, April 7, and conclude by Friday, July 11, 2025. Work will not occur around scheduled holidays.

CTDOT aims to remove dead, diseased, and decaying trees to ensure public safety. Trees encroaching into the clear zone, which is the designated safety space along roadways, will also be removed. According to CTDOT, this effort is crucial as it can “help save lives in the event of a crash or vehicle leaving the roadway.” Distinctive Tree Care LLC has been contracted for this task.

During this period, there will be ramp and lane closures from Monday through Thursday between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Traffic will be rerouted with the help of traffic control personnel, signing patterns, and trailer-mounted attenuators guiding motorists through the work zone.

CTDOT warns that modifications or extensions might occur due to weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances. Motorists are urged to maintain safe speeds while traveling through these areas.
