The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 9 that it will hold a virtual public information meeting about the planned replacement of Bridge No. 06973, which carries Winwood Circle over Wrights Brook in Somers, on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting aims to give residents and community members an opportunity to learn about the proposed project and provide feedback or ask questions. The session will be held via Zoom and requires registration. A question and answer segment will follow the presentation, which will be recorded for later viewing. Instructions for joining the meeting and submitting comments are available at portal.ct.gov/DOTSomers0129-0118.
“Safety at this crossing will be enhanced with the installation of a new structure that will meet current design and safety standards,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Hayley Martin. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”
The department expects some right-of-way impacts on nearby private properties, including drainage work and temporary construction easements needed for replacing the bridge. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2028, depending on funding availability, property acquisition, and permit approvals. The estimated cost is about $2 million, with funding anticipated to come from 80% federal sources and 20% state sources.
Individuals without internet access can listen by phone or request mailed materials by contacting Hayley Martin at Hayley.Martin@ct.gov. Language assistance is available upon request through CTDOT’s Language Assistance Call Line at no cost if requested five business days before the event.
