The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 19 that it will hold a virtual public information meeting about the planned replacement of Bridge No. 06991, which carries Day Road over Wappoquia Brook in Pomfret, on April 2 at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting aims to give residents and community members an opportunity to learn about the project and provide feedback or ask questions. The session will be held via Zoom, with registration required, and will include a presentation followed by a question-and-answer period. Instructions for joining the meeting and submitting comments are available at portal.ct.gov/DOTPOMFRET0111-0128.
“This bridge replacement will improve driver safety by removing the scour and eliminating the current load restriction, which will lengthen the bridge’s lifespan and improve its hydraulic performance,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Marc Byrnes. “We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”
Right-of-way impacts from the project may include partial property takes, slope easements, temporary construction easements, guiderail end anchorage easements, and a drainage right-of-way easement. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2029 depending on funding availability, right-of-way acquisitions, and permit approvals. The estimated cost is $3 million, funded by 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
