The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 8 that it is preparing plans to rehabilitate the bridges carrying Interstate 95 over the Groton Reservoir in Groton.
The project aims to address structural deficiencies in the existing bridges, prevent further deterioration, and ensure continued safety and serviceability for drivers using this route. The department said design work is scheduled for completion by June 2029, with construction expected to begin in spring 2030 if the project is approved, funding is secured, and all necessary permits are obtained. Funding for the rehabilitation will come from a combination of federal (90%) and state (10%) sources.
According to the official website, the Connecticut Department of Transportation promoted safety through initiatives such as work zone awareness and supported community infrastructure via grants.
