The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 20 that it will hold a hybrid public information meeting about the design, permitting, and construction of the Quinebaug River Trail in Plainfield. The meeting is scheduled for April 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the Plainfield Town Hall Auditorium and will also be accessible via Zoom.
The purpose of the meeting is to give residents and community members an opportunity to comment or ask questions about the proposed trail project. The session will include a presentation followed by a question-and-answer period, with instructions for participation available at portal.ct.gov/DOTPlainfield0108-0196. According to Project Manager Richard Prescott, “Completion of this segment of the proposed multi-use trail will improve recreational opportunities and enhance non-motorized mobility and quality of life for both local and regional residents. We encourage the public to attend this meeting to share their feedback with the CTDOT project team to incorporate into the design.”
The department said that no private property is expected to be affected by right-of-way impacts from the planned improvements. Construction is projected to begin in 2027, depending on funding availability, rights-of-way acquisition, and permit approvals. The estimated cost for construction is between $1 million and $2 million, with funding anticipated to come from 80% federal sources and 20% state sources.
