Angel Echevarria, also known as “Frenchie” and “Gordo,” was sentenced on Mar. 9 to 60 months in federal prison and four years of supervised release for distributing fentanyl, according to an announcement by David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

The sentencing follows an investigation into drug trafficking activities in Bridgeport, which authorities say is part of ongoing efforts to address the opioid crisis and related criminal activity.

Court documents show that in 2024, the FBI’s Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force and the Bridgeport Police Department investigated an open-air drug market near Noble Avenue and Shelton Street. The investigation used wiretaps, surveillance, and controlled narcotics purchases. Between March and September 2024, investigators conducted 11 controlled buys of narcotics—primarily fentanyl—from several sellers including Echevarria. At that time, Echevarria was already facing state charges for firearm possession and narcotics distribution but had been released on bond.

Echevarria has been held in state custody since September 11, 2024. He pleaded guilty on October 27, 2025 in federal court to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute—and to distribute—40 grams or more of fentanyl.

The investigation involved multiple agencies: the FBI Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force (which includes personnel from the FBI, Connecticut State Police, and police departments from Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Trumbull), as well as the Stratford Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren C. Clark prosecuted the case.

Authorities continue their efforts against illegal drug distribution networks as part of broader strategies to combat opioid-related harm.
