[WASHINGTON, DC] –May 3, 2023, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) applauded President Biden’s nomination of Vernon Oliver to fill a vacancy on the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.

“Vernon Oliver has all the qualities of a great judge – intellect, integrity, and unshakeable fairness,” said Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “When I served as Attorney General, I saw firsthand his steadfast advocacy for children and tireless fight for justice. His experience as a judge and advocate, and passion for serving Connecticut make him ideally suited for this position of trust. I’m proud to have recommended his nomination to the White House and look forward to championing his confirmation.”

“I was proud to recommend Judge Vernon Oliver for consideration by the White House, and I’m glad to see President Biden nominate him today to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. A lifelong Connecticut resident and a fair-minded jurist, Judge Oliver is eminently qualified for this new post. I am confident he will bring a deep commitment to justice and the rule of law to the bench, and I look forward to his confirmation,” said Murphy.

Judge Vernon D. Oliver has served on the Connecticut Superior Court since 2009. While most recently serving as the Administrative Judge for the Middlesex Judicial District, Judge Oliver previously presided over both civil and criminal cases in Windham, Hartford, Meriden, Waterbury, Rockville, Manchester, and New Britain. Prior to his time on the bench, Judge Oliver served as an Assistant State’s Attorney and Assistant Attorney General in the Child Protection Bureau. Judge Oliver also Chairs the Committee on Judicial Ethics and the State Wiretap Panel, and Co-Chairs the Connecticut Sentencing Commission. A native of Bridgeport and a lifelong resident of Connecticut, Judge Oliver received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Connecticut.
