Yale Bulldogs men’s lacrosse head coach Andy Shay announced on May 15 that Anthony Annunziata will serve as the team’s captain for the upcoming season.
The appointment highlights Annunziata’s leadership and consistent presence on the field. He played in every game this past season, collecting 20 ground balls and making key contributions, including his first collegiate assist during Yale’s NCAA First Round game at Syracuse. That assist led to a goal by outgoing captain Patrick Pisano.
“I’m super excited that his teammates bestowed him with this honor,” said Shay. “Those are big shoes to fill, and I know his teammates selected the guy to do it. I’m sure he will be another in a long line of great Yale lacrosse captain selections.”
Annunziata expressed gratitude for being chosen as captain and acknowledged the graduating class’s impact on the program. “I’m honored,” said Annunziata. “We are grateful for what this year’s graduating class has done and built for this team. They truly left this program better than they found it. We are excited for what’s in store for this group. Can’t wait to get right back to work.”
Alongside the announcement of next year’s captaincy, several team awards were revealed: Danny Van Camp received the Dan Casman Award; Anthony Annunziata was honored with the Brad Gano Memorial Award; Nick Wehmeyer earned the Robert G. Merrick Memorial Trophy; Connor Gately took home the Walter T. Collins Award ’23; Quinn Crotty received the Richard Corrigan Award; Hugh Conrad was presented with the Donald J. Reape Memorial Award; Tristan Ghosh earned the Winthrop A. Smith Award; Patrick Pisano won both Christian Prince Memorial Award and L.C Stowell Award.
The recognition of players through these awards underscores their contributions both on and off the field as Yale looks ahead to its next chapter.
