Constanza Acevedo set a new school record in the javelin on April 18 as the Yale women’s track and field team hosted the annual Mark Young Invitational. Acevedo, a first-year athlete, achieved a throw of 48.47 meters on her second attempt, surpassing her previous school record of 46.21 meters set just one week earlier at Texas A&M.
The event was an unscored meet that featured several local teams competing in various track and field events.
Yale athletes secured multiple first-place finishes during the invitational. Senior Makayla Harris won the shot put with a distance of 14.32 meters. Junior Hebe Chadwick finished first in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:30.26, while sophomore Anna Siciliano took top honors in discus throw at 43.87 meters.
Other winners from Yale included junior Lucija Grd in the 100-meter hurdles (13.86 seconds), junior Gloria Guerrier in the 400 meters (55.20 seconds), junior Victoria Guerrier in the 800 meters (2:09.13), and junior Lola Isom in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.53).
Acevedo’s performance continues to highlight her strong debut season for Yale as she broke her own recently established record.
